Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Lore is an iPhone app that replaces doomscrolling with short, true stories, made by 9M Studios, Inc. This policy explains what the app collects, what never leaves your phone, and who else touches any of it.

The short version

  • We don’t sell your data or run ads. Nothing in the feed is bought, and no advertiser receives anything about you.
  • We collect what the feed needs, and little else. What you read shapes what you get shown next; that is the whole purpose of it.
  • No cross-app tracking. Lore doesn’t follow you around other apps or websites, and never asks for the advertising identifier.
  • You can delete everything from inside the app, at any time, without asking us first.

1. What Lore collects

  • Account information. Your email address, and the name or avatar you share if you sign in with Apple or Google.
  • Reading activity. The stories you like, save, and read, and your reading streak. This is what tunes the feed toward the subjects you actually finish.
  • Usage and diagnostics. Which screens you open, device model and operating-system version, and crash reports — used to find bugs and see which parts of the app work.
  • Subscription status. Whether your subscription is active. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card details.

2. What stays on your device

  • Your daily-read time. Notifications are scheduled locally by your iPhone, not pushed from a server, so the time you chose is never sent to us.
  • Your reading position and app settings. Held in the app’s own storage on the device.

3. How Lore uses what it collects

  • To run the app and keep your account, saves, and streak in sync.
  • To choose which stories to show you next.
  • To fix crashes and understand which features are used.
  • To process subscriptions and provide support when you write in.

4. What Lore does not do

  • We do not sell or rent personal information.
  • We do not show ads or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites, and Lore does not ask for the iOS advertising identifier.
  • We do not rank the feed by how long it keeps you in the app, because there is no advertiser who benefits from that.
  • Lore asks for photo access only if you set a profile picture, and only receives the image you pick.

5. Who processes data on our behalf

Lore is a small app built on standard infrastructure. These companies handle data as part of running it, each under its own privacy policy:

  • Apple — App Store payments and Sign in with Apple.
  • Google — only if you choose Sign in with Google.
  • Supabase — the database and authentication service where your account and saved stories live.
  • Superwall — manages the subscription screen and reports whether your subscription is active.
  • PostHog — product analytics for usage and crash diagnostics.
  • Wikimedia — when you open a full article, your device requests it from Wikipedia directly.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

6. How long we keep it

Account and reading data is kept while your account exists. Deleting your account removes your profile, likes, saves, and streak from our database. Anonymised usage statistics may remain in aggregate, and backups age out on their normal schedule.

7. Your choices

  • Delete everything. Open settings in the app and choose Delete Account.
  • Request a copy of your data by emailing us from the address on your account.
  • Turn off notifications in the app, or in iPhone Settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data — including access, correction, deletion, and portability. Email us and we’ll honour them.

8. Children’s privacy

Lore is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version, and material changes will be noted in the app.
